> WHO IS ZUPHIOH?
Zuphioh, is a Painter & Illustrator from Wicklow, Ireland. His work primarily focuses on themes of Zebras, themes surrounding the NFT landscape and pretty much anything stripy. His work is mostly available as NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) and main collection ‘The Zebra Collection’ has been his pride and joy over the whole of 2021
“A lot of my work tends to focus on creating derivatives of well known art pieces such as works from Gustav Klimt, Edward Hopper and many other figures in art history. I create these works due to my background as training to be an art educator, my fondness and love of art history combined with my love of zebras has lead to me creating a collection where zebras take over all the scenes of paintings famously known worldwide. My goal is to create my own universe of work purely containing zebras, to build up a stripy army!”
> Why do you do zebras?
The zebras aren’t just there in these drawings purely for my love of them, but they are also a symbol of going against what is seen as normal in the art world. Questions like “why zebras” or “don’t you think zebras are a bit silly or a gimmick” is what drives me to create zebras. I don’t see why they have the be questioned, or why they aren’t normal. Just enjoy the art for what it is and the message it tries to convey.
> What is your background in NFTs?
I started creating NFTs at the start of 2021, this area of art being exchanged using cryptocurrency was on my radar since late 2020, but I did not fully have the funds to jump in and participate initially, so I spectated and watched and observed some of the artists that were creating and making such as Trevor Jones, Alotta Money, Angie Taylor and other long time creators.
I first started making late January, and my first mints were in February, but I did not complete my first zebra piece until March, which was a piece called ‘White Stripes’, and that piece is what birthed The Zebra Collection, a wacky and fun collective of illustrations and parodies of art history. Since that day, my collector-base has grown tenfold, and I am so glad and happy to have every single supporter by my side believing in me.
